The MSME registration process has undergone changes, and the government of India has introduced the Udyam Registration portal for registering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The earlier methods like EM-I/II and UAM have been replaced by Udyam Registration. Here are the key types and details:

Udyam Registration
Udyam Registration is the new and unified online registration process for MSMEs in India. It is done through the official Udyam Registration portal (https://udyamregistration.gov.in/). The business owner needs to provide information such as Aadhar number, PAN, and other relevant details.
EM-I/II and UAM (Earlier Processes)
Before Udyam Registration, MSMEs used to register through Entrepreneurship Memorandum (EM-I/II) or the Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) portals. However, these processes have been phased out, and Udyam Registration is the current method.
Provisional Registration
MSMEs can also opt for provisional registration. This is granted to a new enterprise for a certain period, allowing it to start operations and conduct business. After the provisional period, the enterprise needs to obtain regular registration.
MSME Registration for Specific Sectors
In some cases, there might be specific registration processes for MSMEs in certain sectors, depending on the nature of the business and applicable regulations. This could involve additional certifications or compliance measures.
